About the book

This book gives the reader genuine knowledge about the practice, tradition and philosopy of Ashtanga yoga according to the tradition of Indian master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. It is a clearly and simply written guide to everyone who wants to start with ashtanga yoga or wants to enter deeper in its life giving and strengthening practice for body, mind and soul.

Petri Raisanen is a devoted student of guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, who has given Ashtanga yoga world-wide popularity. Petri started with Ashtanga yoga in Helsinki, Finland, in 1988. Petri is internationally known as teacher, highly respected for his traditional way of teaching Ashtanga yoga, and very much appreciated for his soft and therapeuthical adjustments in the yoga poses.

Petri's knowledge of human nature and his strong and calm appearance has inspired thousands of people to start practicing ashtanga yoga and through that finding new physical and mental sources of energy within themselves.

In this book Petri pays his respects to the tradition of Ashtanga yoga, its masters, teachers and students. It was written mainly during his fifth visit to India, in Mysore, in collaboration with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his nephew Sharath Rangaswamy.
